The Valencia Consensus Adaptation of the IASP CRPS Criteria

In September 2019, a workshop for CRPS experts was held in Valencia, Spain. This was hosted by the International Association for the Study of Pain's Special Interest Group (IASP SIG) for CRPS. The meeting aimed to update and adapt the application of the IASP 'Budapest' diagnostic criteria for CRPS. Opportunities for future research were also identified.

The timing of this work coincided with revisions to the World Health Organisation's International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11), which has been approved and put into clinical practice. Key proposed changes to the CRPS criteria and the ICD-11 that were proposed at the Valencia workshop are outlined below. The full recommendations were published in the September 2021 issue of the journal PAIN and are available HERE.
